BUTTERFLIES
Kerala especially the westernghat has high butterfly diversity and about 320 species of butterflies have been recorded. Some of the most common of the are described here:
The Blue Tiger: The Blue Tiger (Tirumala limniace) is a butterfly found in India that belongs to the Crows and Tigers, that is, the Danaid group of the Brush-footed butterflies family. This butterfly shows gregarious migratory behaviour in southern India. (soure: wikipedia)

The Malabar Banded Swallowtail:
The Malabar Banded Swallowtail (Papilio liomedon) is a beautiful member of the Swallowtail family found in southern India. Earlier considered a subspecies of the Banded Swallowtail (Papilio demolion) of South-east Asia but now considered a distinct species. It seems very beautiful having pale greenish-yellow band that crosses the wings starting from the middle and not from just before the middle of the dorsal margin of the hind wing, also this band is composed entirely of separate spots on the fore wing. Southern bird wing:The southern bird wing
(Trodis minos) is one of the largest butterfly found in India. These are most common in Westernghats of Kerala region. As it is one of the largest of its kind it has a wing span of 140mm-190mm. Forewings are seems in shiny black and the hindwings are in golden yellow. The southern birdwing found allover Kerala especially after a rainy season, when the flora became greenish, smiling with their flowers.
